Hi!
My name is Erika and I am a third year Pre-Medical and Health Sciences Student at MCPHS University. I've been selected as one of six students to travel to Agadir, Morocco this May to participate in a Global Education Opportunity. We just had our first meeting last week to discuss a tentative itinerary and answer some questions the participants had and it sparked my excitement. We're going to be getting on a plane in two months to experience something none of us have ever experienced before! I'm writing this blog as a way to share my experience with others. Whether that be a student interested in going in the future, a family member or friend who wants to hear more, or a curious reader, welcome. I look forward to sharing my experience with you and telling you all about it! I wanted to use this post to talk about some of my reasons for going on the trip as well as some goals I have set for myself. I chose to go on this trip as a way to experience mission work in a new way. For anyone who knows me, I often talk about my mission work experience in Nicaragua working at the Mustard Seed Communities and what a life-changing experience that was for me. I am hoping to learn even more from this trip and take in the experience in a different way now that I am older, more experienced in medicine, and more mature. As far as goals I'm hoping to achieve, I'm really hoping to take on this trip with an open mind and a new found resilience to accept change and to work with what I'm given. I'm sure that rural health clinics will not be anything like the city hospital Intensive Care Unit I am currently working in and I'm looking forward to learning how to work in a less controlled environment! Most of all I'm hoping to experience the culture and history of this new place I've never been and to lend a helping hand in any way possible. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you. Until next time...
